What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is an evidence-based system for diagnosing, treating and helping to prevent a wide range of health problems. Through hands-on treatment, osteopathy helps the body to heal, restores normal function and relieves symptoms. It does not involve the use of drugs or surgery.
Osteopathy is based on the principle that the well-being of an individual depends on the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues functioning smoothly together.
Our Osteopaths use a variety of manual therapy techniques to help to restore normal function and to relieve pain from musculoskeletal conditions. We can treat a full range of MSK problems, from back pain and sciatica, to headaches, shoulder, knee and ankle pain, muscle tendinopathies and repetitive strain conditions. The treatment is physical and may involve muscle techniques, movement and joint manipulations (sometimes called HVT or OMT) to increase the mobility of joints, to relieve muscle tension, to enhance the blood and nerve supply to tissues, and to help the body’s own healing mechanisms. We may also provide advice on posture and exercise to aid recovery, promote health, and prevent symptoms recurring.
